Sunglasses
Overexposure to the sun can cause short- and long-term damage to the eyes. Sunglasses don't have to be expensive to do the job well. Inexpensive sunglasses that provide 100 percent UV protection can be found at local variety stores, grocery stores, and department stores. The percentage of the ultraviolet rays filtered out by sunglasses is usually printed on the label.
People who wear prescription glasses can have an ultraviolet coating added to their lenses.
For sunglasses:
- Encourage your family to wear sunglasses everytime they are outdoors.
- Buy your kids sunglasses with their favorite characters on them.
- Be a role model for your family by wearing sunglasses everytime you are outside.
- Put a pair of sunglasses in your child's school bag and make sure their teachers and care takers know they are required to wear them whenever playing outside.
